Brian Sexton
Hello and welcome to camp those corner. A brand new segment here is part of our finding your frequency series. I’m Brian Sexton, and we’re excited to bring you this segment because it’s gonna be different. It’s gonna be a little bit longer. It’s going to have a lot more conversation and involve some very distinctive personalities, not the least of which is my co host here, the coach. Dave Campo, hey, Dave, how are you? I’m
Coach Dave Campo
good. Brian, this is exciting, you know, something new, as you said, and some great topics. And I think we’re going to have some great guests, including one to sit right next to
Brian Sexton
me. Listen, he fits with you. And I right. I like to say that we don’t have a problem talking. We have a problem stopping. And that’s the same with Mike White from client focus media and Foodies Care a brand new nonprofit, they might
Mike White
I’m fabulous. I feel great sitting between two very intelligent, good looking gentlemen. It makes me look better and sound better. Listen, you’re already the best guest we’ve ever had, and the first the best, and hopefully not the last of our producers have anything say
Brian Sexton
about I hope it. I hope that’s the case. Just give us the overview, the 30,000 view of Foodies Care and what got you started with this new endeavor? So
Mike White
started a marketing PR firm about 23 years ago, client focus media, and worked with a lot of great clients back in the day. And had one of my clients I got to know personally was a chef at a restaurant. Used to take him into the radio station all the time. He ended up losing his job. Then I heard his wife left him, and then I saw him about six months later, and him in Plaza, sitting on a park bench, kind of shaking. They had gotten into drugs or something, just something not positive, and started writing a poem about it, which turned into the lyrics to a song which, over three years wrote to the script to a musical called another sign that goes through the plights of homelessness. And we actually launched in 2012 in Jacksonville, and started the not for profit originally in 2012 to use this as a catalyst to raise awareness and money for organizations that feed the hungry. How’s the homeless? We have recently hired our first president, Angela mincey, who is running the organization, built our board, and we are ready to bring the musical back and create a national road tour to raise money for our local organizations.
Coach Dave Campo
Mike, I’ve got a great question for you. You know, there are charities all over the place, how do you make your decision on the things that you’re going to support the things that the client focus media is going to work
Mike White
with. So there are charities, there’s organizations that, in reality, should be buttoned up underneath another organization as a program, as opposed to a standalone so we pride ourselves on really giving no services. We are raising money to the organizations that provide the services. So we are partnering with solzbacher Center City, rescue mission, mission house, 68 ministries, beam and several others that are doing great work. And then we are going in, giving them capital, and we are investing client focused media. We are putting $500,000 of free marketing resources to go in with the money to help raise the organizations. So
Coach Dave Campo
you’re really not giving charity. You’re giving help to someone that’s working and they’re working themselves. This isn’t just handing out money.
Mike White
It’s correct, and there’s many great people. So our board, we have a gentleman, Bill gulliford. Bill gulliford serves with soul spocker Center. Been involved a trustee in our community for years, so Bill is already part of soul spocker Center. He knows what their real needs are, but right now, many organizations, they don’t have a marketing budget. They don’t have marketing departments, so it’s hard for a lot of them to get ahead. So by having people in the organization, he is saying, here’s what we need. We go in, put cash in, and then my board members come in and say, How can we lift what resources do you need in terms of media marketing, or it might be a supplemental volunteer group to continue on an event that lost its coordinator. So
Brian Sexton
where’s the cash come from? How are you fundraising? You? Thank you. Happy to do it.
Mike White
So we have a great board. So along with yourself, we have gentlemen like Gary Chartrand, John Delaney, Mackey, Weaver, Damon Alin, Taz Novus, Mac Holly, heritage, a group of great people that are behind it. Each one contributes money monthly, but then we host friend racers. So our whole goal is to host a private event, as in you and Dave might choose to put on an event, maybe at the football field. We charge $100 ahead to come to the event, 100 people out at the event. It’s all about food, fun, friendship, fellowship. Does Dave have to cook? Dave does not. He gets to he gets to help guide all the chefs we bring out, but we create the experiences you. Out at the event, our board members, as well as Angelo, go out. We have a five minute foodie mission where we will talk about, here’s the organization, what we support. We’ll run some auctions. And then we say, Are there two people here that want to host the next fundraiser? And it goes and it keeps building. From there, we are not going to get out to an event like many, not for profits. We go to a fundraiser, a gala, and they’re great, but you sit back and they tear jerk, and they say, all right, break out your checkbooks, everyone. This is all about creating the community through entertainment budgets, not giving budgets. So
Brian Sexton
you get a kick off already. You’ve done an event. How did it go about how to produce
Mike White
first event was in Taylorville, Illinois, my hometown, my mom is on the board, and each one of our board members, their first responsibility is to plan and host your own friend raiser, which then you, in turn, invite your relationships, and then we invite ours to come out and have fun together. So I flew Chris Bucha, Angelo, Mincy Andy varns, who runs digital social into the town of 10,000 we pre sold about $15,000 worth of tickets to a progressive event at local restaurants. Ends up the event. After we raised the money, we had someone say they want to match the donation. And then we had someone else at the event say, Well, if you’re going to match it, I want to donate 20,000 Another person said, I’ll give 10,000 turned into a impact of $49,000
Brian Sexton
for a local food pantry. And that money stays in Taylorville. That money
Mike White
stays in Taylorville. So what we do is we will come in. So Foodies Care plans pays for creates many of these friend raisers. So our financial donation Foodies Care brings in and then our goal is to promote organizations locally, bring back here, but a reoccurring donation stream stays in the community. We do this. So we raised $15,000 at the event, out of ticket sales, out of that, our organization wrote a $4,900 check to them, which was matched, but we took care of all the expenses leading up to it, and then from there, many people wrote direct checks to the Taylorville food pantry. So it’s the same model that we’ll do here, is we’ll go in and throw the event plan, the event, do all the labor, do all the work, and then just leave them with a net gain. You know,
Coach Dave Campo
it’s interesting, you know, since I am a small part of client, focus, media, big
Mike White
part, well, the personality. Well, if it weren’t for you, there would be no CFM,
Coach Dave Campo
I don’t believe that, but I appreciate Jones
Brian Sexton
tell you the same thing about the Dallas COVID.
Coach Dave Campo
Listen, you were very kind with the intelligent part when you introduced us. Over there. You’re all right, but you have some great people on the board. You’ve done a great job with putting those together. What I know from a short period of time here, Angelo Mincy, I am more impressed with him than any young guy that I’ve been around. A guy that’s done some great things in the music business, but is smart and is a hard worker.
Mike White
He is great and and part of this, people who know me and I share the story, they get tired of hearing it. Excuse me, but Jack Sears part of organization, retired CEO of the Boy Scouts, and I’ve had the opportunity serving on the board, going to lots and lots of fundraisers, along with fellow Eagle Scout, Brian. And at every event, Jack ends it with looking at the audience and saying, somewhere out there, there’s a young man or a young lady who’s going to take your place in life. That is not an option. What are you doing to find your replacement today? Right? So what we are doing, we are taking the Gary chart, trans the John Delaney, the Brian Sexton, the people who have been at Rotary Clubs, yes, who’s stepping in his shoes when he’s no longer out there, who’s stepping in chart trans shoes that raises money for schools and all the organizations, the philanthropists so Foodies Care our board, our whole goal is to bring in our relationships and hand them off to the Next Generation. Each board member serves in the community, in different areas, and then at client focus meat, each one of our team members gives up their time, talent and treasure to our local organizations. Perfect. What’s
Brian Sexton
the big scope of food is scary? Is it? Is it a North Florida institution? You’ve taken it to Taylorville, Illinois, so obviously, not limited. Do you see this having a national scope, eventually,
Mike White
eventually, yes, but the core mission right now is to use our resources and relationships to support organizations in Jacksonville to feed the hungry. How’s the homeless? And it’s to give them a lift. People might ask, why would I give to you instead of directly a soul spotter or city rescue mission? Well, you should give directly to them, but many of the people coming in through these private events don’t as like the letter when we hosted the event in Taylorville, Billy Williams, who was a very successful businessman, was being recognized at the event, and he wrote us a letter prior and said, I drive by. I the Taylorville Food Pantry every day. I never really think anything of it, but because of what you’re doing, it opened up my eyes to the services they have. And I’d like to match whatever donation that you guys raise in terms of donation for them, it’s raising awareness to something. It’s taking people and saying just because I support organizations that feed the hungry doesn’t mean that’s what you support. You support Boy Scouts. You support Rotary. Everyone has their own organizations. They support. But But our goal is to focus locally right now and then as it grows under our great leadership, our board and Angelo Mincy, as long as we are doing good, by doing good, the organization is for the group to take where it can go to do the most good.
Brian Sexton
You know, I don’t know what the homeless and hungry population is like in Taylorville. I’ve never been but i i see it here, and a lot of people who are watching this see it here on a daily basis. There is a ton of need for what you’re offering here in North Florida. It’s a major problem.
Mike White
One, then let’s take what I’m offering. It’s not what I’m offering. City rescue mission and their alcohol rehab programs, drug addiction programs, Mission House, from supplying just clothes and food to salsa shelter, and each one has core services that they are giving. But the issue is there’s so many different organizations, and you have to go part of leadership. Jackson, seeing all the stuff that solspotter has a hope team that goes out, injects blood pressure and changes socks, each one is already doing great work, but they’re underfunded, or the exposure isn’t there. So how can we go to those organizations saying you’re doing that? But what if I came in with $10,000 it’s not a lot of money, but is it enough? If I then apply that through $50,000 of marketing resources and video and TV shows and social engagement to give to their marketing department. Will it get one more Billy Williams that says, I drive by those people every day, and I thought, and I didn’t realize, so if we can change the mind of one person that opens up a checkbook, we’ve succeeded. Well, we talk
Brian Sexton
about relationships all the time. I mean, it’s obviously a touch point here at client focus media. There are so many people who have moved here since COVID that we don’t even know you. Talk about friend raisers, right? We all know at least one person who has moved here, moved in down the street, that doesn’t know Mike, that doesn’t know you, that doesn’t know me. There’s the opportunity to find a billy Williams who is just waiting to be discovered, waiting to give of time, treasure and talent to an organization that he would never think to be connected because he’s from Connecticut, or he’s from Illinois, he’s from Oregon, and just moved here and
Coach Dave Campo
especially in this town, yeah, you know, you got people coming to Jacksonville. This is a brand new open area, I think, for people coming in that have all kinds of different backgrounds, and it’s great.
Mike White
There’s one more area, though, that the charitable giving budget. Charitable Giving is drying up. A lot of corporations that I can’t sponsor, that were tapped out for the year, but organizations have giant marketing budgets. So what client focus media does is, when we pick up a client, we take part of we are doing a total of a $1 million annual give back of services to organizations across the spectrum, from the rotaries to other great organizations Jacksonville. But we do that through our clients. We also request that clients put 10% of their marketing budget back into charitable giving, which we then match in marketing resources to the organizations important to them. What it does, it makes it where we’re not just focused on the US, on the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and big ones. There’s some great smaller organizations that do great things that we can apply and impact. $10,000 that organization
Brian Sexton
is huge. You put $10,000 in the hands of the folks at the Mission House, out at the beach, and you create amazing results. Well, nothing
Coach Dave Campo
is small. I mean, you know, you say this is a small donation, or this is a small giving. Nothing is small because it creates other things, obviously.
Mike White
And part of that goal, though, is we have the plants that kid like the bill Gulliver is already there. They know what is necessary. They know where they’re moving to. So they could guide us. Several these people are serving on our board as well. They’re guiding us to the resources and talent that they need. So it’s an area to make a difference. But also, there’s, as you talk, these businesses coming in town, corporations, if we can find a way to accomplish their marketing goals by donating to those organizations. So let’s say we have a client, St Nicholas guns. St Nicholas guns hosts events out at his location, and he is donating to the USO or to the Boy Scouts, to all these organizations, if he wants to get in front of the military, take out of marketing budget and donate to a no no dinner for the USO. It’s an opportunity for engagement with an audience. So it’s not out of the charitable giving budget, it’s out of the marketing budget which goes further, which gets you PR, which is a win for the organization as well. So
Brian Sexton
someone wants to host an event or come to an event, what’s the best way to connect with Foodies Care? Foodiescare.org,
Mike White
Yeah, and there’s a lot of neat things coming up. And anybody that just wants to engage or come in and attend an event, there’s going to be a whole lot of choices. There’s a dozen events on the website, from golfing events out at Top Golf or at Palm Valley golf. We’ve got bowling events at Beach Bowl. So we create different levels of events. And someone also joins a Foodies Care membership is a $25 a month membership fee, which gets you invited to select events. You can step up. And if you do $50 a month, there’s another tier of events that are going to be some really neat ones. And if you do a larger amount, you might get invited into the event that you and Dave host, right?
Brian Sexton
But it sounds like we’re hosting an event, we got,
Mike White
I just, it’s, I volunteered you, yes, that you’re hosting an event. That’s an old Scout term, we know. And I think, I think Dave’s wife wanted it at his house. Yeah, there’s a possibility he’s gonna lay out the Super Bowl rings, and for an extra $10 you get a photo with the ring
Coach Dave Campo
with all three rings. Get it as many as they want in that one,
Mike White
but it’s there’s a lot of great people, great communities and great organizations that just need support, community,
Brian Sexton
impact, experience. It sounds like it comes together perfectly in Foodies Care. What a great idea. Thank you very much for having me. Thank you for sitting down with us. Do you have anything else to add?
Coach Dave Campo
Yeah, just that I’m excited about the future of this show that we’re doing endeavor, and we need more guests like Mike White probably talk a little football. Yeah, we’ll get a little football going too. We’ll have a few sports gifts here over the over the days.
Mike White
All right, so that’ll do it. Does anybody still watch football?
Brian Sexton
Yeah, according to every measurable data point, football is still the most popular sport in the world.
Mike White
Wait, I’m on a football show.
Brian Sexton
So excited this time, though, and
Coach Dave Campo
that’ll do
Brian Sexton
it for this very first edition of Campos corner.
